
4x-Award-winning brand design for bluegrass music festival
FreshGrass is an annual bluegrass music festival located at MASS MoCA in North Adams, MA. It is known to festival-goers as glorious tradition made fresh and new again with a line-up that is jam-packed with guitar gods and banjo gurus, traditionalists and trailblazers, and artists that are already known and loved along with new FreshGrass discoveries. Together, it’s an expansive group of performers who both draw on the past and look to the future.
Process
Identity needed a more welcoming, attractive face that is open to all ages, with a strong focus on younger generations and families, focusing on the words they use across their website and media: fresh & innovative. The design process started with an understanding of the festival’s uniqueness and value
It was a no-brainer to create a logo featuring bluegrass instrument (banjo), music (notes), and freshness (growing grass) merging together – a representation of both traditional and trailblazing music that is rooted in the bluegrass’ history and reflects the festival’s vision.


Festival Essentials
FreshGrass has a powerful reputation but needed a solid, shareable brand recognition to outshine its competitors. With its rebrand, the logo was placed strategically on festival essentials and merchandise to emphasize the new bold, colorful look.
